Outsider the Betting Value in Tony Bellew v David Haye Boxing Odds

Tony Bellew vs David Haye OddsGet ready for the repeat: Natural cruiserweight Tony Bellew and ageing heavyweight David Haye clash at the O2 Arena in London’s Docklands on Saturday night just like last time, writes Ross (Fight starts approximately 9.30pm, Saturday May 5, live on Sky Box Office).

In their first clash in March, Bellew won by a stoppage in the 11th round. Haye sustained an Achilles injury that required surgery and has since had an operation on a bicep. Haye is back to peak fitness, if you believe the man himself. The bookies and punters probably do as Haye is favourite. There is a strong case that Haye doesn’t deserve to be so fancied and the betting value may rest with Bellew once more.

It has been billed as a grudge match as this fight is not about titles and, arguably, more about money. That said, there is no doubt that there is huge public demand to see this clash. Though we would not point to the fact tickets sold out in under an hour to support that view, given the corrupt nature of the tickets’ market in the UK with huge companies set up purely to profit from touting. A bit like the press conference for these two fighters, that is a bun fight in itself.

Certainly these boxers have gone through the mandatory theatrics and are professing an intense dislike for each other. A punch was thrown at the first press conference (yawn) and this time around there were similar play-fighting antics, a typical part of the publicity process. However there is still a public desire for the ‘trash talk’ and certainly for the fight itself, even second time around, with supporters and pundits alike picking which pantomime villain to side with.

Here at JustBookies, we are more concerned with the betting aspect and list all the Tony Bellew vs David Haye odds above. This includes all the main markets, from ‘outright winner’ to ‘method of victory’, ’round betting’ and if the fight will actually ‘go the distance’.

There is often some value to be had in boxing with the underdog and in this case Bellew, who is best at 2/1 to prevail (he was 4/1 first time around), is the longshot. Bookies’ favourite David Haye is around the 4/9 mark. We said it here last time and we will say it again for this rematch, Bellew appeals as the value bet.

There is no doubt that when the faux insults and the over-the-top publicity show stops at around 9.30pm on Saturday night, an intriguing rematch fight will ensue, with both pugilists paying the other much more respect in the ring than out of it.
