It is one of the strangest grudge matches in English football and neutral fans aren’t entirely sure as to how it came about. All we know is that supporters of Crystal Palace and Brighton have an intense dislike for each other and we can usually expect some feisty encounters when these teams meet (8pm Monday; TV: Live on Sky Sports).
Selhurst Park is the location for the latest edition of the ‘M23 Derby’ and the two sides have endured contrasting fortunes since the start of the new Premier League campaign.
CPFC vs BHAFC Match Odds
Brighton may be conceding home advantage for this EPL game on Monday night but a more positive opening for Graham Potter’s men means that they start as favourites at a general 8/5 with the trusted UK online bookmakers. Victory for Crystal Palace is next at 2/1 while the draw is only slightly further back at 21/10.
Palace’s only bright spot in a modest start saw Patrick Vieira’s men overcome Spurs by three goals to nil. Tottenham were unbeaten and leading the league at that point but, otherwise, it has been a disappointing campaign for the Eagles with two draws and two defeats.
In contrast, things could hardly be better for Brighton fans who have seen the Seagulls take 12 points from their opening five games. Potter’s men currently sit in the Champions League places and, while that run is unlikely to last, the form guide makes Brighton worthy favourites for Monday’s match.
Side Markets
Goals have been shared around this Brighton side with Neal Maupay the current leading scorer with three strikes from five matches. Maupay carries his side’s lowest odds to open the scoring at 11/2 while Crystal Palace’s new signing Odsonne Edouard is the favourite to find the net first at 5/1.
Edouard crossed to Selhurst Park from Celtic on transfer deadline day and scored twice on his debut in that win over Spurs.
Other options from either side in the first goalscorer betting include Wilfried Zaha at 13/2, Christian Benteke at 15/2, Aaron Connolly at 8/1 and Danny Welbeck at 8/1.
Crossing over from the individual markets, Both Teams to Score is quoted for Monday night’s match at a general 10/11. Most bookies go 4/5 for a ‘No’ bet on BTTS so there isn’t too much to get excited about here.
A better option could involve switching to the Total Goals betting. Staking Over the 2.5 line will currently attract best odds of 11/8. Taking that one step higher sees a top price of 18/5 but the bookies are clearly expecting a low scoring 90 minutes. Stakes Under the 2.5 line are very short at a general 4/7.
It is no great surprise that the 1-1 draw carries the shortest odds in the Correct Score market at 5/1. Those expecting a higher scoring outcome can get a seriously tempting best of 11/1 on a 2-1 win for Brighton while the same scoreline in favour of Crystal Palace is available at 12/1.
Lastly, if this grudge match lives up to its billing, we could see a few cards issued on the night. Not every bookmaker is quoting discipline markets at the moment but there are best odds of 6/1 available if any player from either side is sent off. Elsewhere, a price of 11/10 can be found for Over 3.5 cards of any colour.

The form guide points to Brighton but can the Seagulls really maintain their early season results? We’ll always hear talk about Leicester City’s league triumph when we ask that type of question but Graham Potter’s men don’t have the quality that the Foxes enjoyed back in 2016.
Crystal Palace are inconsistent but they can be dangerous as Spurs found out when the Eagles last played at Selhurst Park. Whatever we may think about this curious rivalry, it’s clear that there will be an intense and hostile atmosphere which could inspire the home team.
In short, it’s very close to call and it would be easy to sit on the fence and go for the draw. We suspect, however, that the better value lies away from the result betting and over in the team goals markets.
The bookmakers expect a subdued 90 minutes based on scoring stats this season. Despite their lofty position, Brighton have scored just seven times in five league games while Palace have found the net on five occasions in the same number of matches.
Trends are there to be broken and it’s rare to find Over 2.5 goals at odds as high as 11/8 so that’s the first selection of this Premier League match preview.
For a second bet, you could take Both Teams to Score. 10/11 isn’t the worst price for this market but we’ll finish with that Over 3.5 cards pick at 11/10. If it’s as feisty a contest as Palace and Brighton fans suggest, this should be a strong bet.
