Two London clubs who have made impressive starts to the new season meet at the London Stadium on Sunday (2pm). West Ham have continued their progress under David Moyes and will go into this clash in seventh place.
Newly-promoted Brentford were among the favourites for relegation at the start of the campaign but the Bees are currently looking comfortable in ninth. A series of positive results for Thomas Frank’s men includes a 3-3 draw at home to league leaders Liverpool last time out.
It should certainly be an entertaining 90 minutes but can we find any interesting betting tips among the markets for this EPL match preview?
Judging by the result betting, the bookies remain unimpressed by Brentford’s encouraging start to the campaign. West Ham are odds-on favourites across the board with most outlets quoting 5/6 for the home win.
A share of the points is next at best odds of 11/5 while victory for Brentford completes this section at a general 18/5.
That 3-3 draw last time out is arguably Brentford’s best performance to date but there have been other notable results for the Bees. Their campaign began with a 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening day and they have also beaten Wolves along the way.
West Ham United’s Premier League campaign opened with a 4-2 win over Newcastle United. That was followed by their most impressive result so far, a 4-1 victory against Leicester City. Clearly form is good in both camps and it suggests that it could be a closer game than this market indicates.
The first goalscorer betting shows joint favourites in places with some bookies unable to split West Ham’s Michail Antonio and Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Elsewhere, Antonio is a marginal favourite at 4/1 while Toney is only just behind at 9/2.
Both men have been in strong form this season and Antonio could even be in with a shout for the Golden Boot after scoring five times in his first five league matches. Toney has found the net twice in four matches to date.
In terms of outsider options, the Hammers’ Tomas Soucek looks generous at best odds of 10/1. The Czech Republic international has scored just once so far this season but averaged a respectable one goal in four games last term.
We’ll continue with Both Teams to Score and this is available for Sunday’s match at 4/5 with most of the main UK online bookmakers. Anything close to even money is worth considering for BTTS but how do the scoring stats stack up?
We saw that West Ham scored four times in each of their opening two league matches and Both Teams to Score would have come in on each occasion. Subsequent games have been more subdued but the Hammers can usually be relied upon to find the net.
The same applies to Brentford and it is worth mentioning their 7-0 demolition of an admittedly weak Oldham Athletic side in the EFL Cup. Both sides look strong going forward but may be suspect at the back so BTTS appears to be a solid option.
Those returns indicate that we should also take a close look at the Total Goals betting. Anyone wanting to start modestly with a stake Over the 2.5 line can get best odds of 19/20 while the top price increases to 12/5 for a bet Over 3.5.
Finally, we’ll add some correct score suggestions and those expecting a free scoring but close encounter can take the 2-2 draw at best odds of 17/1. Alternatively, a 2-1 win for West Ham can be claimed at a top price of 17/2 while the same outcome in favour of Brentford is listed at a general 16/1.
Our Betting Preview’s WHUFC vs BrentfordFC Betting Tips Verdict
While games don’t always follow their trends, the signs point to an entertaining and attacking 90 minutes at the London Stadium. Both West Ham and Brentford have been positive in their play and that positivity has been behind their bright starts to the season.
Both sides offer some of the more productive attackers in the Premier League right now with Michail Antonio the stand out performer. Antonio is a tempter for the first goal but Tomas Soucek has some interesting prices. While the Czech is as short as 6/1 in the first goalscorer betting, Bet365 have those best odds of 10/1.
This is the type of high scoring game where Soucek can get on the scoresheet but we’ll play a little safer by taking the 10/3 on an anytime goal. With the high scoring theme in mind, we’ll finish the selections with Over 3.5 total goals which also looks generous at 12/5.
As for the result, we favour the draw but there are some good options in the side bets for this London derby. So these are our advised betting tips for this Sunday EPL match preview:
- Over 3.5 goals at 12/5 with BetVictor or Betfred.
- Tomas Soucek to score at any time in 90 minutes at 10/3 with Bet365.
